The Con Amorè Orchestra

The Con Amorè Orchestra is part of the Hoërskool Drie Riviere Conservatoire. Stationed in Vereeniging, Gauteng Province in South Africa, the members of the orchestra come from different schools in and around Vereeniging, Vaal Triangle – a predominantly industrial area.

The Con Amorè Orchestra has been in existence since 1980. The size of the orchestra varies each year as the learners leave school or move to other towns. Many of these members join orchestras at their various universities while others play in professional orchestras and bands.

The orchestra takes part in art festivals, competitions and concerts as well as the annual national SAMBA competition in SA for concert and marching bands. An ensemble taken from the orchestra were the South African winners for two consecutive years in this competitions (2006 and 2007). During the 1990’s the Con Amoré undertook tours to Brive, France and twice to the island of Reunion to participate in international orchestrades. They took part in the WASBE Tygerberg Fanfare in 1999, 2002 and in 2006 they attained a 2nd place in their category. In 2009 the Con Amoré toured to Vienna, Austria to participate in the International Youth Orchestra Eisteddfod.

The main goal of the orchestra is to establish a love and appreciation of music, making music together and developing the talent of these young people. Con Amoré is conducted by Mrs. Dalien Ahlers, who is assisted by Mr. Adriaan Willeboordse and Mrs. Leonie Human with the organization of the orchestra.

The Hoërskool Drie Riviere Choir is one of the pride and joys of the school and the conservatoire. It is an opportunity for all learners from Hoërskool Drie Riviere to enjoy music and partake in all Conservatoire events. The choir is conducted by Mrs. Alida Greyvenstein and accompanied by Mrs. Prudence Venter. Click on EVENTS to see where and when the choir will be performing.
